Every year the Pantone Colour of the Year is announced and we’re always excited to see how it can be incorporated into your home décor. This year, however, Pantone has announced two colours of the year!

Pantone’s Colour of the Year 2021

As their colour of the year, Pantone has chosen ‘Ultimate Gray’ and ‘Illuminating’. A stunning grey and vibrant yellow, these colours reflect how two contrasting elements can come together to support each other. ‘Ultimate Grey’ offers a solid base and ‘Illuminating’ add optimistic warmth.

The aim of these colours is that a bright yellow will spark cheerful moods and vivacity, something we all need after a year of uncertainty. A strong grey, it is hoped, will be an emblem of something solid and dependable, and will be reminiscent of pebbles on the beach.

How You Can Use Pantone Colour of the Year in Your Home

There are so many ways you can use Pantone’s Colour of the Year as inspiration in your home. Your first thought might be to simply repaint your walls, but you can get so much more creative with your home décor. For example, you could highlight features of your home with yellow and use grey to make some elements feel more grounded.

One of the main ways to do this which has endless possibilities is upholstery. With a wide range of fabric options available, you can incorporate these fabulous colours into your home in many ways. These include made-to-measure curtains & blinds, bespoke headboards and furniture as well as custom-made soft furnishings. Here are a few ideas:

Curtains and Blinds

Louvolite offers a wide selection of vibrant fabrics in a range of patterns. We love this Pico Mustard fabric and think it makes a stunning addition to your windows. Pairing made-to-measure curtains and blinds with some grey décor you can create an exciting colour scheme for your home.

Wallcoverings

Casadeco’s Rivage collection features wonderful fabrics including this Tissu Allure. We think it would make a colourful addition to any room. Although it can be used to make bespoke soft furnishings, they can also be used as a fun alternative to standard wallpaper. We love this Jaune fabric and think it would make a great feature wall.

Upholstery

It’s not only adding décor to your home that is a great way to use these colours. You can also give existing furniture a refresh using upholstery services too. If you have a chair, sofa or footstool that you don’t like anymore, don’t throw it out. Re-upholstery can give it new life and turns it into something that you love. Harlequin fabrics has some wonderful fabrics in their ‘Ascent’ range as part of the Momentum collection.

If you don’t want to make any major changes to your home, soft furnishings are a fantastic low-effort way of adding colour to any room. Custom-made cushions and throws can be made to any shape and size that you’d like. You can easily add character and a new style to your home.
